My rats tail is turning black, and she is really cold.......?
Hey, my name is Amber. My rat just recently today started acting very strange. She has gotten cold, when she is normally warm. She is usually all jumpy and hyper. But now she is just huddled up in a ball on my lap. I think she is dying..like her body is shutting down, but this morning she was fine. I think she might have hurt her tail in some sort of way..I don't want her to die.. ;(
Lol, I didn't even notice that I put it in the reptile section. xD I guess it automatically did that.
Honestly, i have no idea. You posted this in the Reptile section, and the only thing I really know about rodents is that they breed like crazy, and that they are a good food for snakes. You should call a veterinarian, maybe she ate something? Sorry, I can't be too helpful ;(

If the tail is turning black that means that the blood circulation to that part of the tail has stopped and the tissue is dying. Dying tissue is necrotic tissue and this can set up an infection. To save her life you need to have the tail amputated in an area along the tail where the tissue is still pink.
The dead tissue and bone may fall off, or necrotizing may continue to work it's way up the tail. Waiting and leaving it alone can also invite blood poisoning. If the tissue dies right up to the base of her tail you will lose her. It's better to have no tail, then no rat.
