What would you do? Sleep question?

My daughter is 5 1/2 months old. She is sleeping in her crib...well sort of . The problem is getting her to sleep on her own. We do a bedtime routine, bath, lotion, nursing, lullaby, bed. We lay her down w/her pacifer and she often wakes within 20-30 min. We wait 5 min then go back and comfort her but not pick her up and give her pacifer back. This goes on several times. She then starts crying uncontrollably and no soothing will work. I know she's tired and she barely opens her eyes but she's screaming. Eventually I pick her up...I'm talking an hour and a half after we've been trying to soothe without picking her up. How can the ferber method work if the baby never calms down after those 5min. Advice?

I don't believe in controlled crying, I believe it just stresses a baby out. My baby has never cried unless she needs something, although all babies are different.

Is she still hungry??
Our bed routine is feed, bath, feed, bed. She goes to bed very full and content. Never fusses, I lay her down awake (with a dummy) and she takes herself to sleep (for 12 hours), she is 4 months. The room is dark, quiet and the whole little routine is kept nice and calm, talking and smiling but no stimulation.
It's just an idea but maybe she doesn't need a lullaby, she could be then overtired/stimulated when she actually goes down. Worth a try.
Also my girl used to go to bed at 7pm but she started to get too tired and fussy so over time it has become 6pm so that she still goes while she is calm.
Hope this helps.
Also if you are going to try something new I would stick it out for a week to see if it fits. Chopping and changing anything too much is confusing otherwise. (for them )
